As many of you know, we recently celebrated Marin's first birthday. In honor of her celebration, I was determined to make her a cake (the only thing that was homemade at her party). Our dear family friend, Aunt Nancy, traditionally serves one of my favorite cakes at her fabulous parties. It's a yellow cake that has a touch of buttermilk and a chocolate, cocoa frosting made with sour cream. The sweetness and slight bitterness combo is such a win. Nancy recently gifted me with the recipe and I will cherish it forever. I'm still trying to track down an online sharable recipe, but no luck yet. In the meantime, here are some shots of my first attempt, to build the temptation. What is your favorite birthday cake to make?
